The historic Riviera Hotel was constructed
in 1927 and opened for business on January 10, 1928, at a cost
of $325,000. The building was designed and constructed by Henry
Harms Preisibius (1872-1964) who also constructed San Diego's
first high-rise building, the 11 story (new) St. James Hotel
in1912..
The Riviera Apartments/Hotel, built for
Dr. Lischer, was touted as progressive for it's time. It boasted
it's own radio tower on the roof with hookups to all the units.

rooms were fully furnished including dinnerware, spring water,
refrigeration and steam heat.

includes the complete renovation of the historic Riviera Hotel, the reinstallation of 68 kitchens into the remodeled
suites, new bathrooms, air conditioning, the addition of a ground
floor food service area for free breakfasts, a business

on a second building to be located on the parking lot in front
of the existing building which will contain nine-stories consisting
of four stories of parking and seven stories of hotel suites, The
new building will contain an additional 112 studio and one-bedroom
suites. The entire 180-suite property will be operated as a
