Bus and Truck Linear Motor Charging Application
In the proposed bus and truck linear motor and charging application, linear motors built into road surfaces and powered by the electric grid can help accelerate the adoption of zero-emission, battery-electric transit buses or trucks. The all electric vehicles are be able to use the linear motors to conserve and substantially downsize their electric batteries and to recharge inductively while sitting at the bus stop. The same application would benefit port electric trucks which must recharge their batteries for six hours after every two hours of its operating cycle. This system would be beneficial for creating an inexpensive zero emissions solution for fixed route short haul bus operations such as airport and rental car buses. Battery sizes and off duty cycle charging has been a drawback to the adaptation of all electric buses until now.
ITSCo is partnering with ISE corporation and General Atomics on the development of this induction charging system.
